About Qmunity Camp NWT

Qmunity Camp NWT was created as a joint project between the Northern Mosaic Network and the NWT Creative Collective. Created and founded by Chelsea Thacker and Lindsay Debassige in 2019, Qmunity Camp saw its first session in August 2020. Programming can change from year to year depending on staff and community capacity but will always include the following foundational activities.

  • Cultural Ceremonies

  • Canoe Day Trip

  • Traditional Foods

  • Creative Arts Opportunities

  • Identity Exploration and Discovery

  • Dance Party

  • Passion Show

  • Cultural Teachings

  • Camp Fires

  • Lots of Yummy Food

Camp Sessions are 7 days in length held at the end of August. We welcome campers throughout the NWT who identify as 2SLGBTQIPA+, questioning and/or allied youth from the ages of 12 - 17. There is NO COST to campers to attend camp thanks to the support of our funders. Camp takes place at the Camp Connections Site located at km 57 on the Ingraham Trail. Our site is completely off-grid with no cell reception, and has a beautiful river and sandy spots for sand castles!

Qmunity Camp NWT provides 2SLGBTQIPA+ youth with a safe, inclusive, supportive and creative space to find themselves, connect with like-minded youth, and learn more about gender, sexuality and identity. We work to make 2SLGBTQIPA+ youth feel loved and accepted by their home territory so they can remain connected to their communities and culture.
