Frequently Asked Questions

Is there any cost to participate?

Qmunity Camp NWT is FREE for youth to participate thanks to our generous funders and sponsors. We will pay for camper travel, accommodations, and food during the length of camp.

I identify as 2SLGBTQIPA+ but I’m not out to my guardians, what do I do?

It can be super scary to tell the people in our lives that we live a part of the 2SLGBTQIPA+ community, and some people don’t react well to that disclosure. We want you to know that our board and staff will NEVER disclose your identity to anyone. Camper safety in and out of camp is our number 1 priority. If you want to apply for camp and are unsure how to do so safely please reach out to our Camp Director, Lindsay on our social media, by phone (867-445-5937) or email (info@qmunitycampnwt.com).

Can I bring my phone/tablet/ipod to camp?

Qmunity Camp NWT is held at the Camp Connections site on the Ingraham Trail outside of Sǫ̀mba K'è (Yellowknife). The site is completely off the grid and we do not have access to the internet or cell reception. But we do have a satellite phone on site in case of emergencies. To fully immerse ourselves in the experience of connecting with the land we don’t allow electronic devices. We do play music on-site though and bring instruments for some good ol sing a longs!

What kind of support will be available to me during Camp?

Qmunity Camp NWT has 4 Camp Leaders that will be there to support campers. We have two Leaders in Training who are young adults that previously attended camp as a camper. Our Camp Support Person who is always there for chats, laughs, and helping hands. Our Camp Manager who supports all staff and campers with any questions, comments or concerns. Our First Aider to handle any of your physical needs. Our Mental Health Professional to handle any of your emotional and/or mental needs. Our Camp Director, Lindsay, is Two-Spirit and looks out for our spiritual needs. Our Camp Cook, Bernie, who’s there to fill our bellies with yummy food and just vibe! And of course, our two camp pups Morti and Radagast who are always down for some belly rubs and cuddles!

I don’t have any camping gear, can I still attend?

Of course! If you are in need of a sleeping bag or pillow please let us know and we will be sure you have it for camp! The cabins on site have twin-sized mattresses but we need to bring our own bedding. We provide everyone with a sweater, baseball cap, toque, water bottle, flashlight, and whistle!

Are there bathrooms/showers on site?

Currently, we have access to outhouses on-site for bathroom use. And we are hoping to receive grant monies this year to build a shower on site. We also have access to a beautiful river to swim in and freshen up!
